Welcome back! Nice lookin Evo as always. Heres to a solid engine / tune and no more downtime!
I have known Manie for over a decade now. He has always been bitten by the 4g63 performance bug and suffered from the disease many of us suffer from. The addiction to speed and high performance turbocharged 4 cylinders. When Manie ditched the 2g FWD Hahn Racecraft 16 powered Eclipse and about 3 broken transmissions later, it was time to upgrade to a true "made in Japan" performance 4 door.
Enter his 2004 Lancer Evo GSR SSL. With the leather and sound system comfortable enough to trick him into believing he was driving a timid sedan to work everyday, he pulled the trigger on a Apex Silver Evo and he was onto his next big adventure. Manie having been in the central Florida market for some time he had a lot of friends in the sport compact business which helped insure his supply of parts and fast shipping met his stringent goals and timeline.
Manie carefully selected all of the component for each of his builds and was very particular in who was to work on the car. Luckily we met his strict guidelines and were able to do some of the mechanical work on his car such as ARP headstuds and camshafts. Manie did a lot of racing in his time with the car and learned a lot along the way. When an unfortunate event caused his stock engine to disintegrate the pistons, he employed only the best internal components in his forged internals build. Unfortunately due to poor tuning he lost his entire shortblock to to severe detonation which broke all the piston tops off of his newly built engine. Upon review of the mapping, it was discovered that fuel injectors were not properly scaled and ignition timing was maxed out at a ridiculous 24* of timing on kelford camshafts. It does not take a scientist to understand that the ultra high ignition timing was to blame for the destruction of that engine.
After about $20,000.00 in losses Manie sold a lot of his good parts to be able to install a replacement shortblock. Luckily for him his buddy Scott@TTP was keeping a cherry of an engine under plastic at TTP. With 9k of use on ethanol, the engine was being kept for a special occasion which evidently became the occaision of Manie needing a solid, perfect condition shortblock. We can through for him and struck a deal landing him the shortblock below.
With the new engine installed and the whole car detailed as always, Manie ran the engine for a week or two to insure all was well, just stopping in once to get the injectors scaled correctly and a safer map installed for the meantime while he waiting for his tuning day to come around. Looking at the motor, one cannot imagine that two engines blew already as it looks like a work of art in there.
With the car on the dyno and a recently installed Prosport 60mm peak/hold oil pressure gauge in the center cubby to monitor the lifeblood of the engine, we strapped down the car and got to work installing V7 David Shirley map resolution in the car, complete with x2 boost cut protection, timing retard on overboost cells, and a number of other safeguards that the prior tuner neglected to responsibly provide to this great customer who deserved the very best in ECU programming. With boost set to 26-28psi on pump, the car put down a respectable 402whp/375tq @ 1.00CF% uncorrected.
Some of our advice to Manie was to consider the swap of the Competition Cams 272 to the Cosworth M2 272 cams, the replacement of the Invidia O2 housing in favor of a Megan Racing O2 and the upgrade of his FMIC from an ebay AMS knockoff to the ETS 4" wide core.

Thank you very much Scott, for your help and support
The car is runing very nice and I am happy to be driving it again.
You took time to tune the car in great detail, and it shows it in the driving.
I am very excited.
Looking forward to more power in the near future. But have have to tell you, it is very strong now![]()
Nice Manie congrats!! I bet it rips!!

More addition to the thread.
My VIII has been on and off the road a few times .
But the good news is that it is back on road again.
Some parts have been eliminated, changed, modified, etc. I think overall, the car has been improved.
A build motor is nice, but that only includes rods and pistons and machine work.
This time around, I did more things to the Evo than at any time before now.
So it is runing very good as a result.
Here are many pictures of the detail work that went into it, to make sure everything runs well. And some pictures of the car as it is now.

Some other changes: Now using a single Walbro Hi Flow Pump, a thick Cossworth Head Gasket, New 950cc Injectors,
Transmission re-Done and Tranfer Case re-done by Pollo.
New ECU Tune by TTP Engineering for Pump Gas, now using Competition 272 Cams, Etc.
There is zero Lag on this set-up, and the boost does not drop much at all.
Over all, I am very happy with everything.
Here are 2 Dyno videos of the car:
I predict your engine will stay in 1 piece now. Good work.
