Dr. Palmisano was back in for another round of upgrades to his 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 this week. New to the setup came an upgraded stock frame twin scroll turbocharger, courtesy of our friends at Chad Block Racing Development in the Northeast USA. Their line of BBK turbochargers employ a set of larger replacement turbine and compressor wheels along with the machining necessary to fit in these new bits to an otherwise stock looking turbocharger. This upgrade results in a stock appearing turbo which well outflows the factory unit by a healthy increase in cubic feet/min of airflow.

Along with the turbo upgrade, Dr. Palmisano employed us in the selection of our ethamax 1250cc fuel injectors which would well cover the airflow requirements of the new turbo as well as allow us to use alternative fuels with less efficient BSFC numbers such as ethanol or E85. However not ready for the ethanol tuning at this time, we did utilize the full features of TephraMods V7 mapping for his car and the provisions for dual map switching are in place in the ECU for an easy switch over to a second map for alternative fuel at a later time. Along with this feature, a knocklight flashing CEL light was added to keep the owner aware of the status of any potential knock events inherent of owning any forced induction vehicle.

With the turbo in, and the injectors in and scaled, the ECU tuning was completed by Scott@TTP. The V7 mapping was used for its sheer resolution where ignition timing, MIVEC camshaft advance and fueling. With the ECU mapping complete, power jumped quite a bit over the factory turbo's last results (in the solid lines) and the output jumped to 361whp/315tq uncorrected on the Mustang Dyno AWD-500 SE.

Next stop will be brakes and alternative fueling with 3 port boost controlled by the factory ECU. Stay tuned!
